Donate While You Doze Fundraiser a Success! The D.P. Murphy Hotel Group recently held a promotion where all of its hotels contributed $12 of each rented room to local United Way chapters.Room rates were slashed 50% during the holiday promotion at the Holiday Inn Express in Charlottetown and Saint John, the Super 8 in Charlottetown and the Hampton Inn in Moncton.Over $18,000 in total was raised for the United Way chapters in Saint John, Moncton and Charlottetown.The Prince Edward Island chapter was the beneficiary of $5,500.Cheryl Paynter, Director of Hotel Operations says “We were very pleased at the results of this promotion.We are in year two in Moncton and our first year at our other locations.We would like to thank our guests for helping to make this significant contribution to the United Way and hope to grow it going forward.”The United Way support several community programs targeted at seniors, youth, children, families and persons with disabilities.

D. P. Murphy Inc. Finalist for National Tourism Award The National Tourism Awards recognize people, places, organizations and events in Canada that offer a superior tourism experience to travellers. This year three P.E.I. businesses have been selected as finalists - D. P. Murphy Inc., nominated for Excellence in Human Resource Development, APM Construction for Corporate Partner of the Year and Shaws Hotel & Cottages nominated for Business of the Year. Awards will be presented at a gala dinner November 3rd during Canada's Toursm Leadership Summit in Saint John, N.B.
Tim Hortons Scholarship Award
The Tim Hortons Scholarship Program has been designed to reward store employees for their positive contributions to their communities through volunteer work. To receive this award, an essay must be written to tell why volunteer and/or community service is important in today's society along with a list of volunteer/community hours that he or she has completed from Feb., 2008 - Feb., 2009.

This year's recipient plays an integral part in the culture of Tim Hortons here on P.E.I. He began his career with D. P. Murphy Inc. in 1984 opening Tim Hortons on Water Street. After running this location for two years, he moved on to TDL Group Limited where he has worked as our District Manager for the past 26 years.
